about

Collab between Pink Sky & I :) “Painted Hand in Mine” ruminates over one single poem, bending in and out of perceptibility. “glimmer on the frosted dew, on the wilted blooms of a summer’s past - I still long for you. on a winter morn staring back as I fixate on a point in time, bend my state of mind - bathed in satin brass, sunlight on the pines - shards of golden glass - painted hand in mine.” I’m happy to leave all interpretation up to the listener (stop reading here), but I’m also happy to share some of my thoughts, as I feel they speak to this present time. “Painted Hand in Mine” to me, is meant to audibly represent the cyclical feeling time gives us - folding back over itself repeatedly. Summer is an allusion. It is what I (and I think most of us) always long for in the colder months, and it’s representative of that longing for something of personal importance to return. If we find a glimmer of what once was, it may give me hope to hold out for its return. Sometimes we find ourselves seeking things we once had or knew, or perhaps haven’t come to terms with the loss of yet. Summer comes back, but not all things do. The hand represents what we’re tangibly longing to behold, (whatever that may be) and paint represents our will to ensure the actuality of our beholden - desires despite their actual presence, or tangibility at this present moment in time. We’re all in a weird place right now, and we’re trying to figure out if life will be able to look like it once did, or how we’ll get there again. We all need to be soft with ourselves, and careful with each other as we figure out how to do this together. The cover art was a collaborative effort, in the spirit of this song: the original photograph by Jeen Na, the painted hand by Angelica Hay of Pink Sky, and the graphic design by Jeen Na and I. Thanks for listening/ or reading, and thanks to Pink Sky for making this song with me. <3
